The Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security and Society (TSAS) has been awarded a $2.15 million Partnership Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
The grant provides TSAS, a research organization dedicated to establishing the groundwork for Canada’s terrorism and counterterrorism knowledge base, funding from 2015 to 2022. Through the funding, TSAS will establish six new core research projects that will operate over a seven-year period.
“The Partnership Grant helps us facilitate our three main goals as an organization,” Daniel Hierbert, co-director and principal applicant at TSAS, said. One of those goals being “to build a functional network of Canadian researchers that is both intellectually independent but also strongly connected with relevant government officials.”
The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism continues to support TSAS through letters of support and collaborative efforts. During a May 2015 workshop on TSAS’ Collaborative Research on Countering Extremist Violence project, Gary Ackerman, director of the Unconventional Weapons and Technology Division at START, spoke on his future-oriented research on terrorism.
“I look forward to finding additional ways to collaborate going forward,” said William Braniff, START’s executive director. “As we have learned from experience, consistent funding can really propel a research agenda, so I have no doubt that TSAS will be a big player in the field and a great partner in the years to come.”
