In an effort to adapt public safety to the most effective method of communication, this article explains how television broadcasters, in conjunction with alerting equipment manufacturers, are developing a way to use television signals for mobile devices instead of the cellular network. A study from START found evidence that 90 characters is not enough to instruct the public on how to take action in emergency situations. The use of television signals could remedy this problem by allowing messages to include URLs and maps, not to mention more information.
