Position Announcement: START Coordinator The START Coordinator is a full-time exempt staff position that reports directly to the Executive Director and to the Director, as a reviewer. The two primary roles of the Coordinator are (1) to assist with and maintain the day to day operations of the office, in alignment with university regulations, and (2) to play an active role in the external relations of the START consortium, including planning on and off campus events and assisting with media relations and with maintenance of the START website.
Given these roles, the Coordinator will be trained to work with university systems for procurement, personnel appointments, and payroll, and must also be conversant in the work being conducted by START researchers. START (National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism) is a research center based at the University of Maryland, College Park. The following duties and responsibilities fall within the scope of work of the START Coordinator:
Office Management: Administrative support for Director and Executive Director, Coordinates quarterly report process for tracking progress on all START projects Serve as primary for PHR appointments and ARS appointments. Serve as a backup payroll assistant to the START Business Manager Maintain office supply closet, physical/equipment inventory, and office purchases, as well as key inventory, security access to START offices, and phone access Assist with travel plans relating to START in conjunction with BSOS's travel office Manages undergraduate student workers External Relations
Organize special events, meetings, and conference calls for the Consortium Support the Executive Director with preparation of reports, short writing assignments, and documentation ? Serve as contact person for the START web-site, help maintain the site, keeping announcements, news, and findings up-to-date.
Develop strategies for promoting programs including media outreach, networking, newsletters and publications, other communications materials and event planning. This position is well-suited for individuals with an interest in public relations, communications, and/or research institutes and think tanks, as well as a good opportunity for individuals who are interested in graduate school to see how research institutes work. Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
Preferred candidates will have experience working in a university setting or experience as a program assistant in the non-profit sector. Candidates who have experience working in or with the Federal government, particularly with relevant Homeland Security agencies, will also be competitive candidates. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience, ranging from $36,000 to $41,000.
