START director Gary LaFree recently delivered a talk for the 2012 IEEE International Conference on Intelligence and Security Informatics (ISI 2012). On the theme of "Cyberspace, Border, and Immigration Securities," the conference brought together interdisciplinary academics, IT professionals and local, state, and federal law enforcement and intelligence experts. LaFree discussed the prospects for university funding on intelligence and security research.
He highlighted how research activity in this area has been energizing research and education in universities, noting that many public universities have become more entrepreneurial in the face of tough fiscal realities.
