JOB OPPORTUNITY: Events and Transition Coordinator

The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) based at the University of Maryland College Park is currently seeking to hire an Events and Transition Coordinator. START supports research that applies the theories and methods of social science to the study of the human causes and consequences of terrorism and transitions it findings to the homeland security community.

Responsibilities: START seeks a highly motivated individual to handle outreach activities of the center. Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent will be responsible for START events, external relations, and publications.

- Events - planning and preparation (work conference services, identify appropriate space, resolve IT needs, prepare materials) and attend all START events

- External relations - handle media calls, post press releases, prepare media guides

- Website maintenance - regular review and update of the START website

- Publications - serve as liaison between content providers and design team to ensure that projects are completed on time, manage supplies and printing of publications

In addition, the candidate must possess high level of customer service and be responsive to customers, faculty and students, and be able to assist with visitors to START.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelors degree, preferably in Communications

- 2 years experience in events planning or public relations

- Strong written and oral communication skills


- Experience working in a university setting

- Experience with media or public relations

- Experience working with graphic design software programs such as InDesign

- Work or academic experience relevant to terrorism studies and/or homeland security
