On Feb. 4, START welcomed a delegation of 13 European scholars, members of law enforcement, religious leaders, NGO directors, government officials and journalists as part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
The brief exchange highlighted some of START’s recent research, education and training efforts in the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) realm, including work on Integrating Mental Health and Education Fields into CVE, the Profiles of Individual Radicalization in the United States (PIRUS) project, the work being done by START’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team on foreign terrorist fighters, and the CVE training modules funded by FEMA that draw heavily on these and other projects.
START has hosted a number of IVLP exchanges in recent months. The visits serve as unique opportunities for START to cultivate lasting relationships with international experts in the field of security.
