Data from the Global Terrorism Database (GTD) was highlighted in a report published by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) in February. The report, titled “The Human Cost of Reconstruction in Afghanistan,” provided an assessment of reconstruction-related kidnappings and casualties.
GTD data also was used recently in a United Nations report produced by the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED)’s Global Research Network. The special edition of CTED’s Research Digest discusses five of the key trends from the past decade, synthesizing and summarizing the findings of the global research community into a concise, analytical overview of each trend. The section on Trends in terrorist attack methodologies links to the Global Terrorism Index, which is based on GTD data and produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace.
