UMD Giving Day
UMD Giving Day
Giving Day is a 24-hour fundraising event held on March 3, 2021 for all members of the University of Maryland community. Students, faculty, staff, parents, friends and alumni are invited to join the largest day of giving because we are all Terps! The goal is to raise critical funding and engage our community to advance the mission of the University of Maryland.
Terrorism is often intended to make us scared and change our way of life, or to make us angry and compel us to over-react. At START, we believe that objective data and expert analysis are essential to tempering counterproductive emotional responses to terrorism, and empowering civil society, the public sector and the private sector to mitigate the threat of terrorism at home and abroad over the long-term. Given the politicized and emotive nature of terrorism, having an independent organization outside of government and bound by scientific standards is critical to fulfilling this role. START has become the most trusted source of data and analysis on terrorism because of our objectivity, and in the process we have become a "public good."
As important as this mission is, it's the way we go about it that matters most. Investing in students is the most important thing we do, and we do that through their active participation in experiential education, with a heavy dose of mentorship.
This Giving Day, we are asking for your support to help us provide experiential education opportunities for students that include research internships, participatory online and in-person courses, study abroad programs and professional mentoring. Help us inspire and train the next generation of national security public servants and scientists.
