Do you find yourself faced with a vast pile of raw data to sort through to solve a highly time-sensitive problem? Our workshop series will help you effectively select and interpret the key elements for consistent analytical performance.
Join START for a series of short, half-day workshops on data analysis and interpretation tailored for security and defense professionals. These interactive sessions with START researchers are appropriate for both seasoned practitioners and young professionals looking to improve their ability to make informed judgments in high-pressure and time-sensitive environments.
Dr. John Stevenson completed his Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science at the University of Chicago, and an A.B. in Government from Dartmouth College. Having a passion for teaching and methodology, John teaches an introductory course on quantitative data analysis in START's online Graduate Certificate in Terrorism Analysis, and, with various START colleagues, designs and delivers training on qualitative and quantitative data analysis for national security professionals.
Workshops will take place on Thursday, March 19 and on Friday, March 20. Workshop A focuses on data collection techniques and source assessment. Workshop B delves into the nuances of data visualization and trend analysis.
Space is limited to 20 participants per workshop. Participants will be confirmed on a first come, first served basis upon receipt of payment. All workshops will take place at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2113 Chincoteague Hall. A light breakfast will be provided for Workshop A participants. Meter and pay station parking is available nearby and the University is Metro accessible. Additional information will be sent following registration.
