On Monday, March 8 at 11:00 a.m. ET, START Director William Braniff gave a virtual lecture titled "A Tale of Two Caliphates,” comparing and contrasting al-Qa’ida’s global jihadist agenda with that of the Islamic State, considering the implications of the competition between the two, and offering a grand-strategic response to the enduring threat posed by both. A recording of this event can be found at this link. If you have any questions, please email the START events team at start-events@umd.edu.
Prior to becoming START's Director, Braniff served as the Director of Practitioner Education and an Instructor at West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center (CTC). Braniff lectures frequently for counterterrorism audiences including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Joint Special Operations University, National Defense University, the United States Attorneys’ Office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. In June of 2013, he testified before Congress on American attitudes towards terrorism and counterterrorism.
