Institute for Economics and Peace teams up with START to track terrorism trends
In early December, the Institute for Economics and Peace will release the inaugural Global Terrorism Index, based on analysis of data from START's Global Terrorism Database (GTD). The Global Terrorism Index scores 158 countries, tracking changing trends in terrorism over time, as well as analyzing its different dimensions in terms of geographic activity, methods of attack, organizations involved and national context. The index explores significant correlations with other socio-economic indicators.
The Institute for Economics and Peace will officially launch the Global Terrorism Index with a presentation hosted by the All Party Group on Tackling Terrorism at the House of Commons of the UK Parliament.
The Institute for Economics and Peace and the START Consortium will conduct a U.S. launch event in Washington, D.C., hosted by the New America Foundation at 3 p.m. Dec. 5. During the event, representatives from the Institute for Economics and Peace, the New America Foundation and START will discuss trends in global terrorism and the results and findings from the Global Terrorism Index.
