Dynamics of Terrorism and Counterterrorism Campaigns

Project Details

Abstract:

Victor Asal and R. Karl Rethemeyer (both from the University at Albany, State University at New York) along with Gary Ackerman (University of Maryland) and Joseph Young (American University) will examine how socio-cultural, political, and economic characteristics interact with organizational characteristics to influence an organization's trajectory of violence. The team will build a forecasting model to identify probabilistic factors associated with the choice of violence by an organization and conditions associated with organizational lethality, including the use of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons, as well as target selection.
