09/08/2020: Assailants opened fire on a vehicle while fleeing a previous attack in Canete, Arauco district, Bio-Bio, Chile. At least one civilian was killed and an unknown number of people were injured in the attack. This was one of two related incidents in Canete on this date. No group claimed responsibility; however, sources attributed the attack to Mapuche activists.

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators.
