Incident Summary:

01/14/2020: Assailants opened fire on military personnel responding to a previous attack near Mayadin, Deir ez-Zor in Bir Houmaima, Homs, Syria. At least 11 soldiers and two shepherds were killed while there were an unknown number of assailant casualties in the ensuing clash. This was one of two related incidents in the Mayadin desert on the same day. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attack.
