Incident Summary:

12/22/2019: Assailants set up a roadblock and ambushed a vehicle carrying Alima humanitarian workers between Monguno and Maiduguri, Gasarwa, Borno, Nigeria. At least six people were killed and five others including three aid workers and two private security personnel were abducted during the attack. The hostages were released on January 16, 2020. The Al-Barnawi faction of Boko Haram, also known as the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), claimed responsibility for the incident.
