Incident Summary:
10/26/2019: Assailants ambushed a ferry boat and abducted 58 passengers, including 14 soldiers, 29 police officers, two prison employees, and 13 civilians in Yay Myet, Rakhine, Myanmar. On October 27, 2019, government helicopters attacked and sank two of three vessels carrying the hostages. At least 15 hostages were freed and an unknown number of assailants and hostages were killed in the ensuing clash. At least 25 more hostages were released on November 5, 2019. The fate of the remaining hostages is unknown. The Arakan Army (AA) claimed responsibility for the attack.
