Incident Summary:
04/04/2019: An assailant set fire to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Opelousas, Louisiana, United States. There were no reported casualties in the attack. Holden Matthews, an unaffiliated individual, confessed to carrying out the attack and stated that he carried out the attack in order to gain attention for his black metal music. Matthews was charged with a federal hate crime and sources suspected that the attack was racially motivated. Sources also noted that Mathews wrote in a Facebook post that he could not "stand all these baptists around here, bunch of brainwashed people trying to find happiness in a religion that was forced on their ancestors just as it was on mine."

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
