Incident Summary:
12/22/2018: A suicide bomber detonated an explosive laden vehicle near a prison operated by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) at Daljirka Dahson Square in Mogadishu, Somalia. This was one of two coordinated attacks in the area on this date; this second blast targeted people responding to the earlier explosion. In addition to the assailant, at least 26 people were killed and 30 people were injured across both attacks. The casualties included security forces, politicians, journalists, and civilians. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the incident.

Criteria 1

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators. Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators. For example, a bomb that exploded in a building would be counted as a success even if it did not, for example, succeed in bringing the building down or inducing government repression.
