Incident Summary:

03/01/2018: Assailants opened fire on Mario Sulit outside of his garage in Hugom, San Juan, Batangas, Philippines. Sulit, a village chief, was killed in the attack. The New People's Army (NPA) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that Mario Sulit was targeted for being "an enemy of the people and an instrument of the fascist state and (land) developers." The NPA also stated that the attack was intended to be a warning to others who were involved in "anti-revolutionary activities," including being government informants and working against the rights of the people.
