Incident Summary:

01/31/2018: Assailants opened fire on Shaykh Anwar Muhammad Danuk in Tal Khadijah, 36 kilometers to the southwest of Kirkuk, near Rashad, Iraq. Danuk, a prominent Al ‘Ubayd tribe chieftain and former major general in the Iraqi military, was killed in the attack. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that Danuk was targeted because he worked with Shia militias.
