07/18/2017: Assailants shot and killed former New People's Army (NPA) member Oning Lumacang in Anticala, Butan, Agusan del Norte, Philippines. The New People's Army (NPA) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that the attack was carried out to demonstrate against the continuance of martial law in Mindanao. The NPA also stated that Oning Lumacang was targeted because he left the group without permission and had participated in military operations.
