Incident Summary:
11/07/2016: Assailants attacked a prison in Banamba, Koulikoro, Mali. No casualties were reported in the attack; however, a prison guard was reported missing. This was one of four related attacks in the area on this date. Ansar al-Dine (Mali) claimed responsibility for the incident; however, sources also attributed the attack to the Macina Liberation Front (FLM).

Criteria
Criteria 1

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators. Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators.
