Incident Summary:

07/28/2015: Assailants kidnapped Walid and Khaled Asaad in Palmyra city, Homs governorate, Syria. Walid, the Palmyra Antiquities Director, was released unharmed soon after the abduction. Khaled, the former Palmyra Antiquities Director and father of Walid, was executed on August 18, 2015. No group claimed responsibility; however, sources attributed the attack to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
