02/10/2015: An assailant opened fire on Deah Shaddy Barakat, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, and Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha at their residence in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States. The three family members were killed in the assault. Craig Stephen Hicks was arrested and pled guilty to carrying out the attack. Sources noted that Hicks was motivated by Islamophobia.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
