Incident Summary:

09/26/2014: Assailants opened fire on Jeevan Patnaik in Sunki town, Koraput district, Odisha state, India. Patnaik, a former block president and member of the Indian National Congress (INC), was killed in the attack. Koraput-Srikakulam Maoists Divisional Committee, a branch of the Communist Party of India - Maoist (CPI-Maoist), claimed responsibility for the incident on posters left at the scene, stating that Patnaik was a police informant and had committed crimes against tribal civilians.
