Incident Summary:
08/10/2014: Assailants attacked three Afghan Wireless Communications Company (AWCC) and Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) towers in Dushi district, Baghlan province, Afghanistan. The assailants briefly detained and tortured an unspecified number of security guards and then set fire to the aforementioned towers. An unknown number of guards were injured and the towers were damaged in the attack. No group claimed responsibility; however, an Afghan official attributed the incident to the Taliban and stated they targeted the towers because of the two companies' refusal to acquiesce to extortion demand.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
Criterion 2

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators. Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators.
