Incident Summary:
11/08/2013: An explosives-laden vehicle was detonated outside of the Hotel Makkah Al-Mukarama in Mogadishu city, Banaadir region, Somalia. At least four people, all police officers, were killed in the attack and 15 people were injured. Four cars and two motorcycles were also destroyed by the blast. Additionally, one assailant wearing an explosives-laden vest was arrested immediately following the explosions. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the incident, stating that they were targeting government officials.

Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
