09/17/2013: Gunmen in military fatigues set up illegal checkpoints and attacked civilians in Beni Shiek village, Borno state, Nigeria. At least 142 people were killed and an unknown number of people were injured. Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that the group would not allow democracy to thrive.
