12/17/2012: Gunmen opened fire on Colonel Shakir Awad al-Bani in the Ghayl ba Wazir area of Hadramawt governorate, Yemen. Awad al-Bani, a military intelligence officer, was killed in the attack. No group claimed responsibility for the incident; however, authorities attributed the attack to Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
