Incident Summary:

10/00/2012: Sometime between October 19, 2012 and October 31, 2012, assailants kidnapped United States journalist Peter Theo Curtis in an unknown part of Syria. Curtis was released, unharmed, by his captors on August 24, 2014. Sources indicate that Curtis was originally abducted by Ahrar al-Sham, a sub-group of Islamic Front (Syria), and that the group later transferred him to the custody of the al-Nusrah Front, who held him along with other journalists in a prison in Aleppo. Al-Nusrah Front reportedly demanded ransoms ranging from $3 million to $25 million for his release. Authorities claim that his release was successfully brokered by a delegation from Qatar and that no ransom was paid to the group.
