10/02/2012: An explosive device detonated inside the party offices of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Sankrail town, West Bengal state, India. There were no reported casualties; however, the building was damaged in the blast. No group claimed responsibility for the incident; however, police suspected Maoists.

Additional Information There were conflicting reports regarding responsibility for the incident. The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) leadership blamed the Trinamul Congress for the attack. The Trinamul Congress, in turn, blamed the explosion on the accidental detonation of devices the CPM was storing in its offices. The police, however, suspected the incident to be the work of Maoists. It is possible that this attack is the result of fighting between rival parties.
