Incident Summary:

09/09/2012: Gunmen attacked a security checkpoint in Abu Ghraib town, Al Anbar governorate, Iraq. In the ensuing gunfire, three soldiers and two attackers were killed. One attacker was also arrested in the incident. This was one of 36 attacks around Iraq on September 9, 2012. Al-Qa'ida in Iraq claimed responsibility for the incidents, claiming that they were revenge for the "campaign of extermination and torture of Sunni Muslim detainees in Safavid prisons."
