04/21/2012: Assailants attacked a district collector in Sukma town, Chhattisgarh state, India. The collector was kidnapped, and two of his guards were killed in the assault. He was released on May 3, 2012. The Communist Party of India - Maoist (CPI-Maoist) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that Alex Paul Menon was targeted for his alleged silence regarding the mistreatment of tribal members in the area. The group also demanded the release of 17 Maoists held in prison.
