04/02/2012: An explosive device detonated near a liquefied natural gas pipeline in Balhaf town, Shabwah governorate, Yemen. There were no reported casualties; however, the pipeline was damaged in the explosion. Al-Qa'ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was in retaliation for the death of five of the group's members in a drone strike the previous week.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
