Incident Summary:

03/22/2012: Acting outside their official capacity, soldiers attacked the presidential compound in Bamako city, Bamako Capital district, Mali. The soldiers, calling themselves the National Committee for the Restoration of Democracy and State (CNRDR), successfully overthrew President Amadou Toumani Toure. The CNRDR spokesperson stated that the overthrow of President Toure's regime was the result of a "lack of adequate material to defend the nation." One soldier was killed and 40 injured in the attack.
