Incident Summary:

02/09/2012: Assailants opened fire on a police station, then took 19 police officers hostage, on the Sinai Peninsula near the Israeli border in North Sinai, Egypt. One assailant was killed during the shootout. All 19 officers were released hours later after negotiations in which authorities conceded to recognizing the deceased assailant as a "martyr" and giving his family compensation. Bedouin tribesmen claimed responsibility for the incident.
