11/9/2011: Unidentified gunmen attempted to assassinate Hussein Ali Hachem, the mayor of Mosul, in Gayara town, Ninewa province, Iraq. The assailants opened fire on the mayor's private residence; guards returned fire and repelled the attack. No one was injured in the incident; however, the house was damaged. No group claimed responsibility and specific motive is unknown.
