Incident Summary:
07/29/2011: On Friday, in the Purchaman district of Farah, Afghanistan, a group of Taliban militants took hostage 15 residents and took them away to an unknown location. The civilians were reportedly taken for cooperating with security forces. The militants decapitated two of the hostages later that same day. The status of the remaining 13 hostages is unknown. A Taliban spokesman said their fighters assaulted a checkpoint in the area, killing two policemen and kidnapping four others.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
