Incident Summary:

05/19/2011: On Thursday night in a pre-dawn attack, at an anti-Maoist vigilant camp in Cherpal village, Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, India, suspected militants of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-M) attacked four policemen that had arrived to attend a wedding. One police officer, Pawan Mandavi, was shot and killed and another police officer, Chirpul Ramaya, was taken hostage. One militant was also killed in the attack. The status of the hostage is unknown and no group claimed responsibility for the attack.
