Incident Summary:
03/28/2011: On Monday evening around 1930, at Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai in Imphal West, Manipur, India, unidentified militants planted a hand grenade near the veranda at the residence of a Manipur University Professor in the Computer Science Department, Oinam Imocha. Police recovered and safely defused the grenade, causing no casualties or damages. The specific motive for the attack is unknown; however, it was reported that on 03/12/2011 around 1600, an unidentified youth demanded Rs 3 lakh (6629 USD). Then on 03/22/2011, another demand of Rs 6 lakh (13259 USD) was made. No group claimed responsibility, but it was suspected that a National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) faction, the Government of People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN) militants was responsible.

The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators. Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators. For example, a bomb that exploded in a building would be counted as a success even if it did not, for example, succeed in bringing the building down or inducing government repression.
