Incident Summary:

10/25/2010: On Monday night, at a private residence in Karaki village in Kanker, Chhattisgarh, India, a group of 30 militants killed a civilian, identified as Dhansai Kovasi. Kovasi was beaten and then shot. The militants were angry that the man’s two daughters had joined the Chhattisgarh police force and that he had refused to budge under ultras pressure asking him to force his daughters to quit the force. No group claimed responsibility, but it was suspected that Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-M) cadres were responsible.
