According to police, Hemanta had been missing for the past few days. The exact amount of time that the victim had been missing is unknown. No damages were reported in the attack. Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-M) posters left by the body claimed that Hemanta was suspected of being a police informer.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
