11/10/2009: On Tuesday, in the village of Kawa near Adre, Ouaddaï, Chad, assailants kidnapped a French agronomist working with the International Committee of the Red Cross and no material damage or casualties have been reported. The hostage was taken across the border to Sudan's troubled Darfur region and later released on 02/06/2010. The motive for the attack was to intensify border talks between Chad and Sudan. The group Faucons Libre d'Afrique (Free Falcons of Africa) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators. Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators. For example, a bomb that exploded in a building would be counted as a success even if it did not, for example, succeed in bringing the building down or inducing government repression.
