Incident Summary:

08/09/2009: On Sunday afternoon after 1230, 100 members of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade of the New People's Army (NPA) kidnapped a girl and two village officials near the town of Asuncion in Davao del Norte province and used them to get into a nearby army camp. Once there, they raided the armory, seizing rifles and hand-held radios, as well as briefly adding the detachment commander to their hostages. Prior to this attack, the NPA rebels also took hostage three civilians including a child and a soldier and used them as human shields in attacking a detachment at nearby Barangay Napungas where they carted away a radio transceiver, 15 firearms and ammunition. All hostages were later released unharmed.
