Incident Summary:

6/20/2009: Suspected members of the Haqqani network kidnapped Private First Class Bowe Bergdahl, an American soldier, in eastern Afghanistan. A video of the captive soldier was released several weeks later; he was asking the United States to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan. In September, 2012, the Haqqani network denied responsibility for the kidnapping, but reassured the family and the United States government that Bergdahl was still alive and would not be harmed. The outcome of the kidnapping is unknown.
