Incident Summary:

06/16/2009: On Tuesday morning at approximately 0820, in South Upi, Maguindanao, Philippines, armed assailants fired upon a vehicle in which several village council members were riding, killing one official's aide, wounding three village council members, and damaging the vehicle. No group claimed responsibility, although it was widely believed that Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) members under rogue commanders were responsible.
