Incident Summary:

08/26/2008: Early Tuesday, a Japanese aid worker, Kazuya Ito, and his driver were kidnapped in Jalalabad, Nangarhar, Afghanistan. The driver was released soon after, but Ito was shot and killed, his body found the following day. A Taliban spokesperson claimed responsibility for the attack. The Japanese Foreign Ministry reported that Ito was the first Japanese person kidnapped in Afghanistan.
