Incident Summary:

04/04/2007: Armed gunmen kidnapped 22 shepherds north of Karbala, Iraq when the Shi i shepherds wandered into an area dominated by Sunni extremists. The gunmen also stole the sheep that were being attended to by the shepherds. No one claimed responsibility for the mass abduction, and the fate of the kidnapped was unknown.
