Incident Summary:

11/07/2006: Members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) opened fire in the morning on areas occupied by security forces and civilians in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, including temples, churches, the Devapura railway station, and the Morakattachchi Hena village. Five civilians were injured in the Morakattachchi Hena village.

Additional Information The security forces the LTTE were firing on were in the Sithandi and Chenkaladi areas of Batticaloa. The 81 mm mortars fired upon these forces landed near Temples, Churches, the Devapura railway station, and the Morakattachchi Hena village. The five civilians injured were from the Morakattachchi Hena village, and were taken to Batticaloa hospital.
