Incident Summary:

7/12/2005: Members of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Fighting (GSPC) assassinated a member of the municipal guard in Beni Ferguene, Algeria. Algerian soldiers, stationed nearby, attempted to come to the rescue of the municipal guardsman but were impeded by the detonation of a homemade bomb that the assailants left at the scene. One member of the National People's Army was wounded. Despite the blast, Algerian soldiers were able to aprehend one of the perpetrators.
